Cooling Tower Replacement
WFT Engineering was the project manager and prime designer who spearheaded the replacement of four (4) forced draft cooling towers totaling 3,000 tons on the roof of this landmark Washington, DC building. WFT Engineering provided detailed systems analysis, along with survey and preparation of construction documents allowing the replacement of the cooling tower in sections while this major office and hotel complex remained in service. WFT Engineering also pre-ordered the equipment and our personnel acted as the owner’s representative during the bidding negotiations and construction phase of the project.

Energy Analysis
WFT Engineering provided detailed systems analysis, energy consumption estimates, and life cycle costing analysis for the owners of this major Washington, DC landmark. The study effort included modeling the operation of the building infrastructure and comparing same with the adjusted energy consumption detailed on the utility bills. The analysis required the incorporation of time of day billing, seasonal billing, and demand charges for all the energy used in the complex. The analysis yielded more realistic energy costs that could be used as a baseline for evaluation of the tenant energy pro-rating cost and off hours energy cost in this occupied building. The operation of the central HVAC system was evaluated and compared with industry energy consumption norms and control strategies. Recommendations were made as to energy cost, energy savings, and estimated payback times. As a result of the study, the owners proceeded with the development of a new electrical riser system to better manage the building electrical systems.
