Smithsonian Institution
Chilled Water (CHW) Service Connection to Arts and Industry Building (AIB), Castle and Quad - Washington, DC

Project Details

WFT Engineering, as part of an integrated design team, provided engineering design and analysis for the connection of the Smithsonian Institution (SI) Museums, located on the National Mall in the District of Columbia, to a single chilled water supply and return system to provide year round air conditioning for the museum exhibit spaces on the south side of the National Mall. The system would be connected to the existing central plant chilled water distribution system operated by the General Services Administration (GSA). Smithsonian Institution would save millions of dollars by purchasing chilled water from the GSA, thus utilizing the existing capacity and services of GSA rather than constructing and operating their own chiller plants.
