National Institutes of Health Building No.10 Air Handlers - Bethesda, Maryland

Project Details

National Institutes of Health Building No. 10 is part of the Clinical Center complex. Air Handling Unit #3 is located in the mechanical equipment room on the B-1 level of Building 10 and serves induction units on floors 1 through 4. 100% outdoor air is supplied to the air-handler via supply fan #13. The air is then conditioned and supplied to the induction units through a single duct riser.

Design approach and highlights:

  • Air-handler was replaced over a three-day weekend
  • Design build construction
  • Air handler brought in sections into the mechanical room and assembled at site
  • Detailed coordination design between all trades to allow for ease of construction
  • Preorder specifications for procurement of AHU to expedite installation
