National
Institutes of Health Building No. 10 Pathology Laboratory Renovation
of HVAC System - Bethesda, Maryland
Project Details
WFT Engineering performed a study and provided a complete
design to address the HVAC problems for the 46,000 sf, 24X7
Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The scope included determining
the heat release data for approximately 2,000 pieces of equipment
in the lab for completing the HVAC loads calculations. The
design included replacement of the penthouse air-handling
and exhaust systems in a phased approach that would allow
the laboratory to remain in continuous occupancy during the
renovation.
Upgrades included providing new mixing boxes, diffusers, supplemental
fan coil units, DCC controls, new air handlers with VFD’s,
and associated exhaust fans.
The recommended solution provided increased reliability and
greater comfort and control of the space, while meeting the
requirements of the NIH Design Policy Guidelines.
